Ingredients for this frozen strawberry margarita

Here are the ingredients you will need to make your own frozen homemade margaritas. Make sure to scroll down to the recipe card for the full detailed ingredient measurements.

  • Strawberries- Fresh strawberries are frozen at their peak to lock in all of their flavor and nutritional value, giving your margarita that perfect refreshing taste. You can also swap frozen strawberries for fresh ones if you prefer but you won’t get the same slurpee/slushie vibe. You could also use any other frozen berries to create a fun little variation.
  • Agave syrup or agave nectar is what you can use in this recipe. Feel free to use as much or as little of that in this drink depending on your personal preference. You can also use honey, maple syrup, or even simple syrup to sweeten this drink.
  • Tequila– Chose your favorite tequire, whether it’s blanco, reposado, or a non-alcoholic option. Each brings a unique flavor profile to your margarita. Higher quality tequila will give your drink a smoother finish.
  • Lime- Fresh lime juice is a must for balancing the sweetness of the strawberries. This tangy citrus flavor brightens up the whole drink and makes it truly so refreshing.
  • Tajin or rimming salt–  Rimming the glass with salt or Tajin adds a delicious salty contrast to the sweet and tart flavors. You can also use sugar if you prefer a sweeter rim.

How to make this frozen strawberry margarita

This is how you can make this delicious frozen cocktail. Make sure to scroll down to the recipe card for the full detailed instructions!

  1. Rim Your Glass: Before blending, prepare your glass by rimming it with salt or sugar. For a unique twist, try rimming with chili powder or Tajin for a spicy kick.
  2. Use a High-Powered Blender: To ensure your margarita is smooth and creamy, use a high-powered blender that can crush frozen fruit and ice easily. This ensures the perfect consistency for your frozen drink.
  3. Blend Until Smooth: Add your frozen strawberries, ice, lime juice, and tequila into the blender. Blend until smooth, adjusting the consistency with more lime juice or water if necessary.

Adding flavor variations to your margarita

If you want to spice up this basic recipe you can add some fun twists to it to fit your likings:

  • Strawberry Basil Margarita: Add a handful of fresh basil leaves in the blender for a crisp, herbaceous twist that pairs beautifully with the strawberries.
  • Mango Strawberry Margarita: Add some frozen mango to your strawberry margarita for a tropical touch! It would also be fantastic with some frozen pineapple in there as well!
  • Spicy Margarita: Add a couple of slices of Jalapeno for a spicy kick.

Frequently asked questions – FAQ

Tips for making the best frozen margaritas:

  • Adjust Sweetness: Taste as you go! You can add more agave syrup or lime juice depending on how sweet or tart you like your margaritas.
  • Use Fresh Lime: Always opt for fresh lime juice instead of the bottled lime juice for best flavors. Of course, if that isn’t possible, it’s okay you can still use the bottled juice and it will still be okay.
  • Frozen Fruit: If you don’t have frozen strawberries, use fresh ones and add extra ice to the blender for tha frosty consistency!

What kind of tequila should I use in this recipe?

Any tequila would work here, make sure you are using your favorite and add as much or as little as you’d like to control the alcohol content of your drink.

Keep in mind that the higher tequila quality will obviously make your drink that much better.

How do I store leftover margaritas?

Simply pour the margarita into an ice cube tray and freeze it. When you’re ready to enjoy it again, pop out the cubes and blend them for a refreshing, slushy drink. This will help maintain the frozen texture and flavor without turning into a watery mess. You can also use the margarita cubes as an ice-cold addition to future drinks!

Can I make this without alcohol?

Yes! Simply swap the tequila for a non-alcoholic tequila alternative like Ritual Zero Proof or leave it out for a delicious virgin strawberry margarita.

Pairing ideas for your margarita

  • Mexican Snacks: Try serving your margarita with guacamole and tortilla chips, spicy shrimp tacos, or a grilled corn avocado salad for the perfect party spread.
  • Appetizer Pairings: Serve with fruit salsa or grilled chicken skewers for a fun, fresh meal.

Best blenders for margaritas

For perfectly blended frozen margaritas, I recommend using a high-speed blender like the Vitamix or Blendtec. These blenders can bread through frozen ingreients and create a perfectly smooth drink. If you’re using a less powerful blender, you may need to adjust the amount of ice to get the desired consistency.y blender you like but make sure to adjust the ice to the power of your blender.
