This copycat McDonald’s Oreo McFlurry tastes exactly like the drive-thru version, but you can make it at home in five minutes with three ingredients you probably already have. Vanilla ice cream, a splash of milk, crushed Oreos. That is the whole list.
The trick to nailing that signature thick, soft-serve texture without an ice cream machine is one secret addition: a small scoop of Cool Whip. It mimics the pillowy mouthfeel of McDonald’s soft serve and keeps the McFlurry from melting into a milkshake the second you stir it.

Let’s Chit Chat!
The Oreo McFlurry hits at very specific moments. For me it’s always a Vegas summer afternoon, somewhere around 4pm, when it has been 108 degrees since 11am and my brain has officially stopped processing anything that is not cold. The drive-thru run becomes a pilgrimage. The “ice cream machine is down” sign becomes a personal attack.
I figured out the homemade version after the third week in a row of being turned away. It took three rounds of testing to land on the Cool Whip trick (a regular blend just turns it into a milkshake), and now this is what gets pulled together when a friend texts that she’s having a bad day, or when I want to drop something off at the fire station quickly. Nobody has ever turned down a McFlurry.

Frequently asked questions – FAQ
A McFlurry uses thick soft-serve ice cream blended with cookie or candy chunks, designed to be eaten with a spoon. A milkshake uses more milk and is blended longer until drinkable through a straw. The Cool Whip in this recipe keeps yours on the McFlurry side of that line.
McDonald’s uses a reduced-fat vanilla soft-serve. At home, any good-quality vanilla ice cream works. You actually want a brand with more air whipped in (the cheaper grocery store brands) because it gets closer to soft-serve texture once blended.
Yes, but the texture will be closer to a milkshake than a true McFlurry. If you skip the Cool Whip, use only 1 tablespoon of milk instead of 2, and freeze your serving glass first so it stays thick. Homemade whipped cream also works as a substitute.
Yes! Any ice cream flavor works for this McFlurry recipe. The Cool Whip and milk thin it out without overpowering the flavor, so feel free to swap vanilla for chocolate, strawberry, cookies and cream, or whatever you have on hand.
More Oreo McFlurry Recipe Tips and Variations
Can I use different cookies or candies in this McFlurry?
Absolutely. Mini M&Ms, Butterfinger, Reese’s, caramel pieces, brownie chunks, and even cookie butter all work in homemade McFlurries. Fresh berries or tropical fruits also turn this into a totally different McFlurry vibe. Honestly, that’s the beauty of making your own at home, since you can mix in any candy or cookie you want.
Can I make this Oreo McFlurry in a blender if I don’t have a hand blender?
Yes, a regular blender or Nutri Bullet works just as well. However, I prefer the hand blender because I can make this Oreo McFlurry right in the serving cup for fewer dishes.
Can you make McFlurries in advance?
McFlurries are best enjoyed right after blending, since that soft serve texture comes from blending the ice cream with the liquid, and freezing too long will harden it back into regular ice cream. So if you need to chill it, 20 minutes max in the freezer before serving.
How do I store leftovers?
McFlurries are best eaten immediately. However, if you have leftovers, freeze them in an airtight container for up to a week, although the texture will harden. Then let it sit at room temperature for 5 minutes and stir before serving.

amazing recipe
Glad you liked it!!
Excellent results. I saved a few of the Oreo chunks to mix in after I blended the rest. Will do this with other flavors now!
That is smart of you to do! definitely adds more texture
tastes good. makes what i’d assume is a large if you ordered it from mcdonald’s.
VERY sweet. i’ve taken a couple bites and i’ve already had enough, lol.
i would like to make my own oreo mcflurry so I don’t have to go to McDonald’s for it
That’s great!
So good! I love this recipe. Too small though. Make the 3x.
Then make it? Lol

😊
i’m planning on making a lot of these for a big party! do you know how many ounces are in “1 serving”? i have 8 oz and 12 oz cups and i need to know how many ounces are in a serving so i can calculate how many things i need to buy instead of guessing. thank you
Hi 🙂 each serving is roughly 12 oz
Really good thank you 😊
Thank you!
You’re welcome 🙂
I’m in Australia what is cool whip please.
Frozen whipped cream
Sorry but I am confused. In your description you mention heavy whipping cream blended with ice cream. In the recipe card you say cool whip, milk and ice cream. Which is correct?
You can use either milk or heavy cream to thin out the soft serve and cool whip in addition to that.
