Here are the ingredients you will need to make this homemade cookie mix. Scroll down to the recipe card at the bottom of the page for detailed ingredient measurements.

  • All-Purpose Flour: is the foundation of the cookies and gives them structure.
  • Baking Soda: acts as a leavening agent, making the cookies rise and giving them a soft, chewy texture.
  • Salt: enhances all the flavors and balances out the sweetness.
  • Brown Sugar: sweetens, moistens, and adds a caramel-like flavor to the delicious chocolate chip cookies.
  • Granulated White Sugar: adds sweetness and helps create a slightly crisp edge.
  • Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips: is the star of the show! Semi-sweet works best, but feel free to use whatever type of chocolate you want.
  • Chopped Nuts (Optional): If you’re feeling fancy, nuts are a great addition by adding crunch and an extra layer of flavor to the homemade chocolate chip cookies.

Here is how to make this mason jar cookie mix. Scroll down to the recipe card at the end of this post for the oven temp, bake time, and full step-by-step instructions!

Frequently Asked Questions – FAQ

What other types of chocolate can I use?

You can experiment with milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or white chocolate chips. Milk chocolate is sweeter, dark chocolate is less sweet and more bitter, which helps balance the overall flavor, and white chocolate has an entirely different flavor. If you want another easy cookie option that doesn’t require the oven, try these no-bake peanut butter cookies.

If you’re out of brown sugar but still want homemade chocolate chip cookies, check out these chocolate chip cookies without brown sugar.

What kind of jar should I use?

A 1-liter jar (32 oz), wide mouth jar works best for this Chocolate chip cookie mix in a jar recipe. That’s also nearly equal to the same size as a one-quart jar. But any jar that can hold all the ingredients snugly will do. Just make sure it’s airtight.

Can I add other flavor ingredients to the chewy chocolate chip cookies?

Yes, feel free to get creative! You can add oats, shredded coconut, or even spices like cinnamon or cocoa powder to customize the flour mixture.

Some other mix-ins you can play around with could be different chocolates, think dark chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, dried cranberries, or even m&m’s. If you love M&M cookies, you can also try these M&M chocolate chip cookies for another fun variation!

Can I make this mix gluten-free?

You can swap the all-purpose flour with a gluten-free flour blend; just make sure it’s a 1:1 substitute for baking.

The mix will stay fresh for up to 6 months if stored in an airtight jar in a cool, dry place. Make sure the lid on the jar is closed tightly. If you only want to make a few cookies at a time, try my small batch chocolate chip cookies instead.

Whoever’s baking these shouldn’t skip the chill time. 2 hours in the fridge firms the butter back up after melting it, which keeps the cookies from spreading too thin and going flat in the oven.

You don’t list the quantities of wet ingredients on your Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix in a jar (?)
