Spread the love

This Starbucks iced chai tea latte copycat recipe is the perfect two-ingredient drink to combat the summer heat. Inspired by the iconic Starbucks chai iced drink this recipe used one of my favorite store-bought chai tea concentrate to bring you those delicious flavors right at home.

If you love Starbucks, you need to try this Iced Golden Ginger Drink Starbucks Copycat recipe, Starbucks Iced Pineapple Matcha Drink, Starbucks Irish Cream Cold Brew and also The best Starbucks Salted Cream Cold Foam Cold Brew.

Believe it or not, the first time I tried chai latte was not at Starbucks but at the Bouchon Bakery where I worked for a while. A coworker, now friend made it for me to try and right away fell in love with it!

Since I was still in college then, I started grabbing one of my favorite drinks from Starbucks because it was easily accessible right on campus.

Thinking about the amount of money I spent there during that period makes me nauseous though!! I was already a broke college student and my Chai tea latte Starbucks addiction didn’t help.

This is the best Starbucks Chai tea latte ever!

Now that I’m older and much wiser, I decided that I can easily recreate it at home. Especially since, now I found my newest addiction… Trader Joe’s!

After a few trips to TJ, I finally caved in and bought their Chai tea concentrate. I tried it and surprisingly, it tasted just like the Starbucks drink I used to order back when I was in school.

That’s how this two ingredient copycat Starbucks chai tea latte recipe came to life.

Disclaimer: I will be sharing a from scratch chai tea latte recipe so that you can make your own right at home, but for the sake of making a very similar recipe to Starbuck’s drink, I decided to go with the chai concentrate.

Adding milk to glass

Why you need to make this latte like now!

  • It only requires 2 ingredients + ice
  • Can be adjusted to taste
  • Comes together in 0.2 seconds
  • Will cost you a fraction of the price that you would spend to get the OG starbucks Chai drink.

Ingredients for this tea latte recipe

Here are the ingredients you will need to make this iced chai latte. Make sure to scroll down to the recipe card for the full detailed ingredient measurements.

  • Milk– Starbucks makes their chai tea lattes using 2% milk so that’s what we will be using for this recipe too. You can use whatever milk you prefer though!
  • Trader Joe’s chai tea concentrate or Tazo Chai Concentrate– I love using my TJ chai tea concentrate but if you want to get something closer to the real deal, you can also use the Tazo brand chai concentrate. Just know that the type of chai concentrate that Starbucks uses isn’t sold anywhere so we have to improvise a little here.

The Starbucks chai concentrate is very potent so when making your drink at the store they will use about 25% concentrate and 75% milk. But for us we will use a little more chai concentrate to achieve a similar flavor of sweetness and spice within out iced latte.

How to make it

This is how you can make your own iced chai latte at home. Make sure to scroll down to the recipe card for the full detailed instructions!

  1. Pour the chai concentrate over ice.
  2. Top it with milk
  3. Stir the drink and enjoy!

If you’re like me and enjoy being extra sometimes, you can top your chai drink with a homemade vanilla sweet cream for a deliciously creamy finish.

Is chai latte healthy?

This is a great question but totally depends on how you’re making it. Since we are using chai concentrate, I wouldn’t say it’s the healthiest because we don’t really control how much sugar is going in there.

If we were making the recipe from scratch though, it would be a little healthier.

Frequently asked questions- FAQ

What is a chai latte made of?

A chai latte is usually made with black tea, spices, and steamed milk. It can be enjoyed both cold or hot depending on the weather, mood, and preference of everyone.

What does chai mean?

Chai means tea, which makes “chai tea latte” extra weird and funny because it pretty much says “tea tea latte” but that’s how everyone here in the US calls it so “tea tea latte” it is!

What is the Starbucks iced chai tea latte made of?

The Starbucks Chai latte is quite different compared to the traditional chai lattes. It uses Chai tea concentrate, water, milk and ice. You might ask yourself, why do they use water when we don’t in this recipe… and that’s because the concentrate that Starbucks uses is a lot stronger so they need to dilute it down a bit.

What does iced chai tea latte taste like?

Chai teas are great for spice lovers. It is a warming drink due to the spices used in it. You will get hints of cinnamon, cloves, ginger, star anise, and cardamom. It is then sweetened with some sort of sugar to make the smoothest latte ever!

What is the best ice for Starbucks lattes?

This might be the second most important question that you asked yourself. Starbucks makes their ice using triple filtered water which makes the ice taste not bad at all actually. So when freezing water to make your ice cubes, go for filtered water whenever possible to get the best flavored drink!

Do chai lattes have caffeine?

Yes, usually chai tea is made with black tea which has caffeine. Since we’re using Chai tea concentrate the amounts of caffeine will vary. Check the back of the chai tea concentrate box to see how much yours has.

What is a dirty chai?

Ahh! This one is one of my favorites! If you don’t think your chai concentrate has enough caffeine, then you can add one or more espresso shots to it and it will then be called a dirty chai latte. It is definitely a drink worth trying if you love both chai and coffee drinks.

Can I make this drink hot?

Absolutely, all you have to do is pour the chai tea concentrate in your glass, steam some milk (use the same measurements that we do for the iced drink) and pour it over your chai concentrate. I always love sprinkling some cinnamon on top of my hot chai latte to add a little extra spice.
