Ingredients for this viral cottage cheese ice cream in the Ninja Creami
Here are the ingredients you will need to make this ice cream recipe. Make sure to scroll down to the recipe card for the full detailed ingredient measurements.
- Cottage Cheese: You can use either low-fat cottage cheese or full-fat cottage cheese in this recipe. Any milk works here, I used dairy milk but almond milk would work great as well.
- Milk: You can use whatever milk you have on hand. This is to give it that more traditional ice cream texture that you won’t get from just the cottage cheese.
- Vanilla Extract or Vanilla Bean Paste: To get that delicious vanilla ice cream flavor, I highly suggest adding some high quality vanilla to this recipe. You can also play with different flavors like orange blossom extract, cinnamon, lemon zest, or even coffee extract!
- Salt: A pinch of salt with help balance out the flavor of our sweet treat.
- Sweetener of Choice: I used a monk fruit sugar substitute to keep the calories low in this recipe but you could also opt for maple syrup, honey, white sugar, or even brown sugar. All these different variations will add a different flavor to the final ice cream.
How to make the creamiest cottage cheese ice cream
This is how you can make this high protein ice cream in your Ninja Creami Machine. Make sure to scroll down to the recipe card for the full detailed instructions!
- Add all of your ingredients to the Ninja Creami pint container and blend using an immersion blender. Make sure that the mixture doesn’t go over the max fill line.
- Put the lid on and put in the freezer for 24 hours.
- Once ready, allow the pint container to sit at room temperature for 5-10 minutes to allow the outside to thaw a bit ( I love doing this to get the best ice cream texture). Place the pint container in the outer bowl and top it with the outer bowl lid.
- Blend the ice cream base in the Ninja Creami ice cream machine on the lite ice cream button.
- Check the mixture and hit the re-spin button if it seems crumbly still.
- Enjoy as is or add your mix-ins and blend one more time on the mix-in setting before enjoying!
Tips and Tricks for the best results
- Blend the base until smooth before freezing to ensure that the final result spins into a silky smooth consistency. You cal also do this in a high speed blender if you don’t have an immersion blender.
- Get creative with your favorite mix-ins. After the first spin you can add cookies, chocolate chips, crackers, and fruits, nuts, or whatever your heart desires then use the mix-in function to combine everything properly.
- Store the leftovers in the pint container. If you have any left, just smooth the top our, pop the lid on, and refreeze. Once you are ready to enjoy it again spin it again like you did the first time and enjoy.

Frequently asked questions – FAQ
Can you taste the cottage cheese in this ice cream?
Not at all! Once it is all blended and spin in the Ninja Creami, the texture becomes super smooth and creamy. The flavor of the cottage cheese completely disappears, especially when you add the vanilla, sweetener, and whatever other mix-ins you chos.
Do I need to use full fat cottage cheese?
While full fat cottage cheese will give you the creamiest texture, you can always use 2% or low fat cottage cheese if that’s what you have on hand. Just note that the ice cream might be slightly less rich.
Can I make this without protein powder?
This recipe gets all of its protein from the actual cottage cheese so no protein powder needed. But if you do want a higher protein dessert you can add a scoop of vanilla protein powder before blending everything together for a delicious treat.
What sweeteners work best for this Ninja Creami cottage cheese ice cream recipe?
Any sweetener you like works great here! Maple syurp, honey, stevia, monk fruit sweetener, or even erythritol all work. Just adjust the amount to taste and if you end up adding flavored protein powder you might need to reduce the sweetener amount.
How long do I need to freeze it before spinning?
Freeze the mixture for 24 hours like the quick start guide suggests for best results. We want the base to be completely solid
What if my ice cream turns out crumbly?
No worries! This is super common, all you add to do is re-spin it and it should do the trick.
What can I pair this ice cream with?
This ice cream is great as a topping or on the same plate with some other delicious desserts! Give these goodies a try with it:
- One peanut butter cookie for one or two people
- Chocolate Chip Brown Butter Blondies
- Protein Mug Cake with Chocolate Chips
- Soft and Chewy Air Fryer Chocolate Chip Cookies
Can I add mix-ins like chocolate chips or fruit?
Of course! After the first spin, make a well in the center and add your favorite mix-ins like Oreo cookies, fresh fruits, peanut butter, strawberries and graham crackers for a strawberry cheesecake ice cream vibe and run the mix-in cycle. You can also just fold those mix-ins by hand if you prefer.
