Last week when I went to grab the cotton candy cookie from Crumbl, I really didn’t think I was gonna like it but the second I bit into it, I fell in love! You can say I fell in love at first bite…
The cookie itself looks like one that would be served at a children’s birthday party or a gender reveal party. It’s has a light pink and blue frosting on top and is decorated with pink and blue cotton candy pop rocks. Seriously the whole combination of flavors is out of this world!
This is the best frosted cotton candy cookie recipe ever!
Here’s the thing, even my sister that doesn’t love fake flavors or candy flavors loved this cookie. It has something that just reminds you of your childhood and that’s why I think that you need to try it whenever you get the chance.
The cookie base is a soft sugar cookie that will melt in your mouth, it is then topped with a cotton candy buttercream and pop rock candy. It is definitely on the sweeter side but you will definitely enjoy it!
Why you need to make this recipe!
- It’s cotton candy flavored! I mean, isn’t a cotton candy flavored cookie every child’s dream? Well now you can make it reality.
- The cookie base is the perfect vessel for the cotton candy buttercream.
- It is topped with candy! (Hello, evey child’s dream again!)
- It is very easy to make and can be made for holidays and parties!
What do cotton candy cookies taste like?
If I had to describe the flavor of these cookies in one word it would be “childhood”. A more clear description of the flavor would be that birthday cake/ cotton candy ice cream flavor that we all used to have when we were younger.
It tastes sweet and buttery and has hints of bubblegum flavors. It’s actually really good because it will probably remind you of so many great memories.

- Butter & oil- The butter and oil mixture will make these sugar cookies extra soft.
- Granulated sugar and powdered sugar– The mixture or granulated and powdered sugar will also help keep these cookies soft and chewy.
- Egg– You will need one large room temperature egg.
- Heavy cream – The heavy cream will keep these cookies moist and tender.

- Flour– All purpose flour works great for this recipe.
- Corn starch- The corn starch will keep these cookies super tender.
- Baking powder– The baking powder will add a little leavening to the cookies and give them some height.
- Salt– Always add a little salt to your baked goods to balanc eout the sweetness.
- Cotton candy extract– Cotton candy extract is a must to get that delicious crumbl cotton candy cookie flavor.
- Gel food coloring- A little gel food coloring goes a long way when it comes to coloring your buttercream. I used the Wilton sky blue gel food coloring and the pink Wilton gel food coloring.

Traditionally they’re supposed to be enjoyed at room temperature or slightly warm but I personally like them a lot more when they’re cold straight out of the fridge.
How to store Crumbl cotton candy cookies?
You can store these cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days.
You can also store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 7 days. Make sure to let them get back down to room temperature so that the cotton candy buttercream softens before enjoying them.
Can I freeze cotton candy cookies?
Yes!! You can freeze these cookies in an airtight container without the frosting for up to 3 months. Freeze the buttercream in a separate container for up to 3 months as well. Once you’re ready to serve these cookies, thaw the cookies and the buttercream in the fridge overnight then whip the buttercream again and frost the cookies before enjoying them.
You can also flash freeze the frosted cookies on a baking sheet then transfer them to an airtight container and freeze them again for up to 2 months. Thaw them in the fridge before enjoying them.
What can I use if I don’t have cotton candy pop rocks?
I actually wasn’t able to find cotton candy pop rocks so I ended up having to improvise. You can use:
- Pink and purple nerds
- Any crunchy candies
- Pink and purple sprinkles
- Pieces of cotton candy! I think this is the cutest topping option and gives me Tastemade vibes from Snapchat.
- Just omit the toppings since the buttercream will already taste like cotton candy!

I’ve never had a Crumbl cookie so don’t know how close these come as copycats. But if you’re a fan of thick, toothsome cookies they won’t disappoint. They feel firm, but there’s a tender softness to them when you take a bite. They’re not cakey, nor are they chewy. The crumb is a bit unique. Since I didn’t have the ingredients to make them cotton candy, I simply added lots of mini chocolate chips and drizzled them with melted chocolate. A single recipe yielded 10 cookies using a #20 scoop.

Love the review!

I think there’s a typo in the metric measure for the powdered sugar. It reads 15 tablespoons, not 15 grams.
Michele
I followed exactly and to me it did not taste like cotton candy. it was a good cookie just not reminiscent of cotton candy. maybe a small fluff of cotton candy on top
Chahinez
These cookies are reminiscent of the Crumbl cotton candy flavor, but they won’t taste exactly like traditional cotton candy. If you’re looking for a stronger cotton candy flavor, you can definitely add a small fluff of cotton candy on top of the cookies for an extra burst of flavor and sweetness.

I LOVE the sugar cookie base for this. Great flavor and really held their shape. I liked the frosting, but found that 1 1/4 tsp of extract for a bit strong, so I’ll try a little less next time. Thanks for a WONDERFUL recipe!

Thank you so much!!
