  1. Melt the chocolate or candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second increments.
  2. If the candy melts or white chocolate mixture is too thick, add ½ teaspoon vegetable oil, coconut oil, or even vegetable shortening to it at a time then stir again until you get a smooth dippable consistency.
  3. Dip each Oreo in the melted chocolate making sure to flip it to coat both sides.
  4. pick up the Oreo with your dipping fork, and tap the fork on the edge of the bowl, allowing excess chocolate drip to come down.
  5. Place the chocolate Covered Oreos on a parchment paper or wax paper lined baking sheet.
  6. Decorate with your sprinkles, candy eyeballs, or whatever you have on hand.
  7. Allow them to chill in the fridge then enjoy!

Can I make these gluten-free?

You sure can! Just use the gluten-free Oreos that they sell at your local grocery stores and make sure that both your chocolate as well as the Halloween decorations you are planning on using are gluten-free as well.

Can I use gel food coloring to color my chocolate?

This is a very tricky question because if you are using regular gel food coloring then absolutely not. The main reason is that it contains water in it and water with chocolate doesn’t combine well. You will end up with a seized chocolate that you can’t use to dip.

If you want to color your chocolate or candy melts, make sure to use a food coloring that is specifically suited for chocolate.

  • Dip each Oreo in the melted chocolate or candy melt using a chocolate dipping fork, flip the oreoOto make sure you are coating both sides. Then lift the Oreo cookie up, and the fork on the bowl to get rid of excess chocolate. Place it on the prepared baking sheet.

  • Repeat this process with the rest of the Oreos. Note that to make the mummy design you will have to dip the Oreo in the white candy melts, decorate them with the eyeball candies, chill then add a drizzle of melted white candy melts on top and chilla again to get that layered effect.

If your chocolate or candy melts are a little on the thicker side, add about ½ teaspoon vegetable oil or coconut oil and mix again. Add ¼ teaspoon at a time if more is needed.
