Ingredients for this easy dessert dip

Here are the ingredients you will need to make this easy recipe. Make sure to scroll down to the recipe card for the full detailed ingredient measurements.

  • Funfetti cake mix- You can use any cake mix, I used the Pillsbury funfetti cake mix for this specific recipe.
  • Cool whip- This will have to be thawed before mixing with the cream cheese. It will have a whipped cream texture except it’s a little lighter.
  • Cream cheese- Make sure the cream cheese is at room temperature so that it is easily incorporated with the cool whip.
  • Milk
  • Vanilla extract- This is optional but can add great flavor to your already perfect dip.
  • Rainbow sprinkles– You can use whatever sprinkles you enjoy to top the dip with those gorgeous extra sprinkles.

How to Make Funfetti Dip (Step-by-Step)

This is how you can make this funfetti creamy dip. Make sure to scroll down to the recipe card for the full detailed instructions!

Step 1: Heat Treat the Cake Mix

  • Since raw flour in cake mix can contain bacteria, it’s important to heat treat it first:
    • Oven Method – Bake at 350°F for 5 minutes on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
    • Microwave Method – Heat in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until it reaches 165°F. Let it cool before using.

Step 2: Mix Everything Together

  •  In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese and Cool Whip until smooth and fluffy.
  • Add the milk, vanilla extract, and Funfetti cake mix. Mix until well combined.
  • Transfer the dip to a serving bowl, cover, and chill for 15 minutes.

Step 3: Add Sprinkles and Serve

  • Once chilled, top with extra sprinkles and serve with your favorite dippers.

Frequently asked questions – FAQ

Storage Tips

  • Refrigeration: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days.
  • Before Serving: Let it sit at room temperature for 10 to 15 minutes for a creamier texture.

Is there anything else I can use instead of cream cheese?

Absolutely! You can use Greek yogurt instead of the cream cheese for a much lighter dip, plus it would have a little extra protein in there as well.

How can I make this healthier?

Swap cream cheese for Greek yogurt and use sugar-free cake mix.

Can I use white cake mix instead of Funfetti?

Yes! Just add ¼ teaspoon cake batter extract and ⅓ cup rainbow sprinkles to mimic the Funfetti flavor.

Can I make this dip ahead of time?

Yes! Prepare it up to a day in advance and store it in the fridge until ready to serve.

Notes

Eating raw cake mix can be dangerous because of the fact that it contains raw flour that can have bacteria in it.
To kill any potential bacteria in the cake mix, quickly heat treat it in the oven. All you would have to do is spread the cake mix onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and toast it at 350F for 5 minutes.
Let it cool down before using it in this recipe.
