Every season, Starbucks puts out a new super fun drink. This summer season we are treated with a Chocolate cold foam cold brew that you will not get enough of.

Of course, Starbucks drinks come at a pretty steep price. The regular 16oz or the Grande size for my Starbucks fanatics sits at a pretty stiff $5.69. Not sure how much it is in your state but that’s the price in Vegas.

This is the best Starbucks chocolate cream cold brew!

That said, I have no problem getting it from time to time but I get hooked on these drinks so easily that’s why I love making them home too to supplement my coffee addiction at a way cheaper price!

Thanks to this recipe, you too will be able to make this silky smooth malted Starbucks chocolate cream cold foam in the comfort of your own home in no time!

Why do you need to make this recipe!

  • It tastes just like a chocolate milkshake with a kick of coffee.
  • This recipe tastes just like the Starbucks chocolate cream cold brew minus the steep price.
  • It’s so tasty and can be made in minutes.
  • It uses malted milk powder to get that extra depth of flavor that Starbucks delivers in its version.

What does the Starbucks chocolate cold foam cold brew taste like?

You might wonder what this drink really tastes like because automatically when we hear chocolate and coffee our brains go to mocha. This drink surprisingly doesn’t taste like that.

It has a refreshing cold kick from the coffee with a hint of sweetness from the vanilla and is topped with the chocolate cream that tastes just like a chocolate milkshake thanks to the malted powder.

Starbucks chocolate cream cold brew ingredients

Ingredients for this Chocolate cream cold brew

Here are the ingredients you will need to make this chocolate cream coffee recipe. Make sure to scroll down to the recipe card for the full detailed ingredient measurements.

  • Vanilla Syrup– The vanilla syrup is used to sweeten the cold brew coffee as well as sweeten the cold foam.
  • Cold-brew coffee– You can either use Starbucks cold brew or a homemade cold brew.
  • Heavy cream & milk- Starbucks uses heavy cream and a little 2% milk to make their cold foam so that’s what we are going to use.
  • Cocoa powder– Cocoa powder is our chocolate component for this drink. Make sure to use good quality chocolate for this.
  • Malted milk powder– Even though malted milk powder might sound intimidating, it is sold at your local grocery store and will give that malted milk shakey flavor to our chocolate foam.

How to make Starbucks chocolate cream cold brew.

This is how you can make the Starbucks recipe at home. Make sure to scroll down to the recipe card for the full detailed instructions!

  1. Combine the heavy cream, milk, vanilla syrup, cocoa powder, and malted milk powder in a cup.
  2. Froth using a hand help frother until it doubles in volume.
  3. Pour your ice in a serving glass, I used my Newair nugget ice.
  4. Top with cold brew and a little vanilla syrup to taste, leaving about 1 inch off the top or enough room to top the old brew with the chocolate cream foam.

Frequently asked questions – FAQ

HOW TO BREW COLD BREW AT HOME?

If you decide to go the route of making your own cold brew coffee here is how you can do that in the comfort of your own home. Here is what you will need to make it at home:

  • 4oz coarsely ground coffee
  • 4 cups water
  1. Mix the water and the ground coffee together in a large glass jar, a bottle, or a pitcher, and steep for 12-24 hours.
  2. Strain the coffee using a cheesecloth or a fine-mesh strainer. After that discard the coffee grounds then pour the cold brew back into the cleaned jar or bottle. Strain the coffee a second time if you notice tiny coffee ground in there.
  3. Store the cold brew in a jar or glass bottle in the fridge for up to one month. Whenever you’re ready to use it, just dilute it a bit before adding your vanilla sweet cream.

What is Starbucks cold cream?

Starbucks cold cream is pretty much a mixture of heavy cream, 2% milk, and whatever flavoring you want (usually vanilla to sweeten it) frothed together to make a creamy, silky smooth, thick cream that is used to top their cold drinks.

How does Starbucks make cold foam?

Starbucks has a special blender that they make their cold foam or cold cream in. To me, it looks like a strong industrial Vitamix but it is small enough to blend and froth a little amount of cold foam every time.

Their formula is heavy cream, 2% milk, and vanilla syrup. Super simple yet super delicious.

How can I make cold foam at home?

Don’t worry! If you don’t have a hand frother, place the sweet cream ingredients in a little mason jar and shake, shake, and shake again until the mixture thickness. Just keep in mind that the sweet cream made with a hand frother is a lot more resemblant to the Starbucks sweet cream.

If you have a smaller blender you can also blend all the ingredients together for 20-30 seconds until thick and creamy as well.

CAN YOU MAKE THIS SALTED CREAM COLD FOAM IN ADVANCE?

Now, I would recommend making this right before you’re ready to enjoy your cold brew coffee so that the foam is at its peak textural consistency.

This recipe has the exact measurement for one drink to make is easier to make just enough to enjoy it. Of course, you can double or triple this recipe if you’re making coffee for a crowd.

soooo good! You are going to save me a fortune! this is identical! I tried the brown sugar shaken yesterday and something was off but this OMG! + I didn’t have any vanilla syrup so I just added 1 tbsp of white sugar to the bottom of my tall starbucks cup with some hot water & my malted milk is already sweetened. delicous. thank you!

Would regular milk powder work? I can’t have the malt.

It, unfortunately, wouldn’t give the chocolate cream the same flavor as the Starbucks drink. But you can just omit it in general.

It is exactly like the original! I couldn’t find the regular malt mix, only the chocolate. So I omitted the cocoa and it was perfect! Thank you for the recipe!
