There is something extra special about a golden brown, crunchy, flaky, and creamy pastry to go with your cup of coffee. It is light, slightly sweetened, and makes for a great at-home for your weekly breakfast or weekend brunch.

Of course, we are using store-bought puff pastry sheets to make this delicious cheese pastry even easier to recreate. Of course, you can make your own homemade puff pastry if you want to turn this into a fun baking project on weekends but both would work great.

They are filled with creamy sweet cheese, and packed with lemon and vanilla flavors to bring it all together.

Ingredients for this Starbucks danish

Here are the ingredients you will need to make this simple recipe. Make sure to scroll down to the recipe card for the full detailed ingredient measurements.

  • Puff pastry dough- You should be able to find this in the frozen aisles of your grocery stores. It will give us the most flaky pastry ever after baking.
  • Granulated sugar
  • Cream cheese- This is not the traditional cheese Starbucks uses in their danishes, but the good news is that cream cheese works just as well to give that delicious cheesy danish taste.
  • Vanilla extract – Make sure to use the good stuff for ultimate flavor development.
  • Egg- This is used as an egg wash to make the edges on the sheets of puff pastry golden brown.

Add-ins

  • Feel free to mix in chocolate chips into the cheese filling for a delicious chocolate chip cheese danish.

  1. In a medium bowl, cream the softened cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla together on low speed until smooth.
  2. On a parchment paper lined cookie sheet slice the sheet of puff pastry into 8 rectangles using a knife of a pizza cutter.
  3. In a medium powder, cream the cream cheese, sugar, salt, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy. Fill a piping bag with the cream cheese and cut the tip off about 2 centimeters in. Pipe a line in the center of each puff pastry rectangle making sure to leave about half an inch on each side. In a small bowl whisk the egg with a tablespoon of water.
  4. Brush the edges with the egg wash and bake in the preheated oven.
  5. Serve as is or top with your favorite fruits for a fancier finish.

You can mix this with a whisk, a hand mixer, or even a stand mixer.

I just finished making these and WOW, I am still reeling from how damn easy these were to make! I will truly never return to Starbucks now that I know I can make these babies at home.
I ended up using 8 oz of cream cheese for 1 sheet of pastry because I like mine with extra filling, but otherwise followed the recipe as is. I did also add a dash of cooking rum to the cream cheese and I highly recommend others try it as well, it really deepens the flavor and makes it extra rich.
If I ever have to make pastries in a hurry I will definitely be making these.

I have made these and love them! Question- could you mix up the cream cheese mixture, place in a baggie, and store in the fridge overnight to use the next morning? Thanks!

How do you store them I’m hoping to have them fresh for the weekend I did add some fresh berries on top before baking.
Should they be in the fridge ?

you can keep them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days. If you need to store them longer, it’s best to freeze them. Allow them to cool completely, then place them in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze until firm. Once they’re frozen, you can transfer them to a freezer bag or container. To reheat, simply bake them in a preheated oven at 350°F for about 10-15 minutes, or until warmed through.

Just made these 10 minutes ago and savoring every puff crumble. It was an easy recipe with simple ingredients! Thank you for explaining each step, and THANK YOU for repeating the ingredients in steps. It makes me not need to scroll up and down. It’s something small but can be time consuming and sticky fingers. Now to look at the other recipes you have! 🙂

Love these! Although the filling only made 3 Danishes for me as well, given how much cream cheese is on the Danishes shown in the picture!

I made this recipe and it only made 3 for me without doubling it. So I would recommend doubling it to get the same amount of filling as she did in her video

I tried it with double the amount of filling but unfortunately it leaks everywhere. You can do that if you would like but you might have a little leakage.

Just like Starbys! Not too sweet. And I can’t even tell you how quick and easy these were. Be careful not to overfill the pastry with the delicious filling. I had one that ooozed over the edge. Oops!
