This Valentine’s day, I tried to get out of my comfort zone and actually make some cute recipes for the holiday to gift to my friends and family.

One of those recipes that a lot of people requested for is this beautiful bright red velvet Hershey’s Kisses blossom cookie. It is so different from anything I’ve had before because usually, red velvet is mostly served with cream cheese frosting. Well, this time,

After trying this recipe a few times, I was able to find the perfect combination of ingredients to yield soft and delicious red flavored cookies that looked pretty too.

Because let’s be honest, I tried both the red sugar coating and the regular granulated sugar coating and the winner was easily the red glittery sugar because it resulted in such a prettier cookie.

Frequently asked questions – FAQ

How to store red velvet blossoms?

These cookies can be stored in an air tight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the fridge for up to a week.

Make sure to let them get back to room temperature before enjoying them! You can even pop them in them microwave for a few seconds before serving.

What can use instead of the glittery red sugar?

If you don’t have red sanding sugar, no worries, you can also use regular granulated just. Thicker granulated sugar is best so try to avoid very fine granulated sugar.

We love this recipe because you can use different colored sanding sugar for different events, for example, black for Halloween or green for Christmas inspired cookies.

How do these cookies really taste like?

I know red velvet is such a mystery but in short it’s pretty much a buttery treat with hints of cocoa and vanilla. This recipe doesn’t use too much cocoa powder but you can still feel both of these iconic flavors!

I think this cookie would be amazing with a white chocolate little Hershey’s Kiss on top to mimic the creaminess of the usual cream cheese frosting red velvet combo.

Not sure how others managed to make this recipe, I followed it to a T, but there’s nothing to actually form the dough. It’s just a flowery mixture that won’t make an actual cookie dough ball. Disappointing, going to have to refer to other recipes in hopes of making something edible.

      Hi Annie,
So sorry to hear this but the one issue that could’ve happened is that you used more flour than needed. Using a kitchen scale is the best way to make something as close to the real deal as possible!

I had the same problem, I thought I did something wrong. I put my hand inside the bowl and squeezed it all together and it made a dough! Family loved them.

These were so easy and tasted fantastic! I love the red color and I ended up making another double batch because these are going to be a huge hit! So nice having something new that will be a surprise to others as well.

Annie, I discovered you have to mix it longer until it gets sticky. My first batch, I didn’t mix it long enough even though the flour was mixed in.
