This edible chocolate chip cookie dough recipe is the perfect tasty treat to satisfy that cookie dough craving. Made with similar ingredients to raw cookie dough but without harmful bacteria, this eggless cookie dough recipe is the best thing for all of my cookie dough lovers out there, especially if you love brown butter too!

This version is a little more elevated from my single serve chocolate chip cookie dough recipe because I ended up adding brown butter to it to really bring out that bakery style cookie dough flavor.

Plus, it’s so versatile! You can have it as is right out of the bowl, mixed with some ice cream, or even as a cookie dough bar recipe or a topping!

  • All-purpose Flour: is the base of this safe, edible cookie dough. I will show you how to heat treat the flour ahead of time to get rid of any potential risks of food poisoning.
  • Unsalted Butter: Use unsalted so that we can add the salt in separately later on.
  • Brown Sugar and Granulated Sugar: sweeten the raw dough.
  • Vanilla Extract: adds a touch of flavor and makes this no-bake cookie dough taste like the real thing.
  • Salt: balances out the sweetness and enhances all of the other flavors.
  • Whole Milk: Add it in as needed to achieve the perfect consisntency.
  • Chocolate Chips: makes this sweet treat taste like actual cookies. You can use semi-sweet, milk, or mini chocolate chips.

How to make this edible chocolate chip cookie dough recipe

Heat Treat the Flour

  • Preheat your oven and spread the raw flour evenly on a baking sheet pan and bake for 5-10 minutes to kill bacteria. Let the flour cool completely to room temperature before using.

Brown the Butter

  • Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the butter turns golden brown and develops a nutty aroma. Remove from heat and let it cool until it is softened.
  • I like to place my bowl of brown butter in a large bowl of ice water and stir until it thickens.

Mix the Dough

  • Combine the brown butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar in a medium mixing bowl. Mix until well combined by hand using a rubber spatula or with an electric mixer.
  • Add the milk, vanilla extract and salt, mixing until smooth.
  • Gradually add the heat-treated flour, mixing until fully incorporated.
  • Finally, fold in the chocolate chips.
