What are CRUMBL Cookies? (And Why Everyone Loves Them)

CRUMBL cookies or CRUMBL bakery is a cookie bakery that started out in Utah. It was started by two cousins who loved cookies so much that they wanted to share them with the world. The craziest and most fun part about how this company came about is how they came up with their recipes.

They would go to gas stations and other public places, and share cookies with random people who asked them which cookie they preferred. Each time, they would change one ingredient in the cookies and then ask again until they came out with THE PERFECT COOKIE!

Today, we’re on a quest to make out the perfect almond pink chilled sugar cookie, and I think we nailed it! Their most iconic cookie, the Chilled Sugar Cookie with Pink Almond Frosting, quickly became a viral sensation on TikTok and inspired countless copycat recipes like this one!

Why You’ll Love This Crumbl Sugar Cookie Recipe

  • They’re the perfect Crumbl Copycat recipe, soft, thick, and bakery-style.
  • Each cookie has that signature almond-flavored pink frosting that melts in your mouth.
  • They’re made with simple pantry ingredients, no fancy tools required.
  • Save money by baking them at home instead of buying $5 cookies!
  • The dough requires no chilling, so they’re ready fast!

What do Crumbl sugar cookies taste like?

Chilled Crumbl sugar cookies taste like the perfect sugar cookie you’ve ever had in your life. They are topped with a silky smooth pink almond frosting too, YUM!  With each bite, you will get the perfect union between a soft, lightly sweetened sugar cookie and a creamy, sweet, almond frosting. It’s just perfect!

Crumbl sugar cookie ingredients

These easy sugar cookies use simple ingredients you probably already have in your pantry! Make sure to scroll down to the recipe card for the full detailed ingredient measurements.

  • Butter- You will need to use unsalted butter for these cookies as well as for the frosting. Make sure it is softened.
  • oil– The vegetable or canola oil is used to keep the cookies moist even after baking and chilling.
  • Granulated and powdered sugar– This sugar cookie uses both granulated sugar and powdered sugar for the ultimate melt-in-your-mouth experience.
  • Egg– You will need one large egg at room temperature.
  • Vanilla and almond extract– The cookie from Crumbl has hints of vanilla and almond so we use both to make the best copycat recipe out there!
  • Flour– All-purpose flour works great for this recipe.
  • Salt– I always use a bit of salt in my baked goods to balance out the sweetness.
  • Cream of tartar– The cream of tartar is used alongside the baking powder to add a little height to these cookies, as well as keep them extra soft.
  • Baking powder– The baking powder is the leavening agent for this cookie recipe.
  • Heavy cream– The heavy cream is used to get out pink sugar cookie almond frosting to the right consistency.
  • Pink gel food coloring I used the Wilton pink food coloring to get the pink color in the frosting.

How to soften butter quickly?

Since this copycat Crumbl sugar cookie recipe uses softened butter, here are a few tips to soften your butter quickly.

  • Cutting method- Cut your butter into smaller cubes to allow it to soften quickly.
  • Microwave and water method- Microwave a cup of water for 1-2 minutes or until really hot. Place your butter on a plate, then remove the hot water from the microwave and place the plate of butter in there. Quickly close the microwave door and let it sit there for 10 minutes to soften.
  • Grating method- Grate the cold butter with a cheese grater and let it sit for a few minutes to soften.

Variations and substitutions

  • If you don’t love almond extract, just use more vanilla instead. It will still be super delicious and rich without that almond flavoring.
  • Want to make these homemade Crumbl-style sugar cookies for a gender reveal party or any other party that doesn’t involve pink frosting? You can use any gel food coloring for that frosting.

How to Make Crumbl Sugar Cookies at Home (step-by-step)

This is how you can make your own chilled Crumbl sugar cookies at home too! Make sure to scroll down to the recipe card for the full detailed instructions!.

  1. Cream the fats: Beat together the butter, oil, and powdered sugar until light and fluffy. You can use an electric hand mixer or a stand mixer.
  2. Add wet ingredients: Mix in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract. Make sure to scrape down the sides of the bowl.
  3. Add dry ingredients: Fold in flour, salt, cream of tartar, and baking powder.
  4. Shape and bake: Scoop 1/4 cup of dough per cookie, place them on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper, flatten slightly with the bottom of a drinking glass, and bake in a preheated oven until pale and set.
  5. Cool completely: Let cookies cool before frosting.

What size scoop does Crumbl use?

For these copycat Crumbl cookies, we are using a large cookie scooper, which holds about 1/4 cup or 4 tbsp of cookie dough.

Of course, you can make them even bigger if you’re trying to somewhat mimic Crumbl. Their scoops hold about 1/3-1/2 cup of cookie dough, making these HUGE cookies!

Make the Crumbl pink frosting recipe

The signature pink frosting is what makes these cookies so recognizable. It’s rich, buttery, and flavored with almond extract for that nostalgic Crumbl taste.

  1. Cream the butter, powdered sugar, and almond extract until combined.
  2. Mix in the heavy cream and beat on medium speed until light and fluffy.
  3. Add in the pink gel food coloring and mix. At this point, it should have a spreadable consistency.
  4. Frost the cookies generously and enjoy!

Notes

How to store these cookies?
Store these frosted sugar cookies in the fridge for up to 7 days.
You can also freeze them in an airtight container for up to 2 months. Just place them in the freezer to thaw overnight before enjoying them!
Tips:
  • Make sure to use room temperature ingredients for this recipe– Room temperature ingredients are crucial for these cookies because that will affect how your cookies flatten out once you smash them!
  • Don’t flatten your cookies too much- When you smash your cookies, you want them to be at about 1/3-1/2 inch flat, nothing less. This will keep them super soft and melt in your mouth in the center!
  • Let your cookie cool fully before topping them with the frosting- Make sure that your cookies are fully cooled down before frosting or the frosting will melt and you will end up with a soupy mess and not so pretty cookies!

  2. Amanda says:

I have not tried these yet – is it possible to roll the dough and use cookie cutters?

    1. Chahinez says:

That could work but the baking time could vary and change based on the size of your cookies. The baking time I used is for 1/4 cup cookie scoop.

Made these today, but it’s fall and I was craving maple/fall spice flavors so I switched out the almond for maple extract in the icing (and added a little fall spice) and did only vanilla in the cookies. But everything else I did according to the recipe exactly
…Ah-Mazing! The texture is crumble cookie all the way and the icing is delicious and decadent. This will be going into my cookie rotation! I love the traditional almond/vanilla sugar cookie flavors, but will likely try some other ones too…maybe honey lavender (!!!)

      2. Chahinez says:

I’m thrilled you enjoyed the crumbly texture. I’m glad it’s in your rotation. Thanks for making the recipe!

Had high hopes after seeing the amount of reviews but it tastes NOTHING like Crumbl sugar cookie. The sugar cookie tastes like flakey dough cookie, needs more sugar

    1. Chahinez says:

Are you sure followed the recipe correctly?

These are super good, nice and thick like Crumbl! I might add a bit more sugar next time. The frosting was really good, I think I added a little too much Almond extract, but still delicious. I cooked at 290 for 14 minutes like a previous comment stated and they were perfect! Will definitely make these, again!

Hi! I’m a little bummed mine turned out a bit dry. I’m not sure what I did wrong. Maybe I was tired and over/under creamed the butter? I’m looking for a more crispy on the outside/softer on the inside type of cookie. What can I do to achieve this? What can I add to the dough to make it more moist? The frosting was amazing though!!! Thank you!!

    1. Chahinez says:

I’m glad you enjoyed the frosting and sorry the base wasn’t as good as you wanted. It could’ve been that you overbaked them or that the flour measurement was off. My first suggestions would be to pull them out a minute early and use a kitchen scale for weighing instead of measuring cups. Hope this helps!

    They’re honestly perfect! Thanks

    1. Chahinez says:

      You’re welcome!

  9. Natalie Nolan says:

For the frosting can I replace almond extract with vanilla extract and still have it taste as good?

    1. Chahinez says:

You definitely can. The ingredients used are only there to replicate the taste of Crumbl’s, but you’re welcome to alter however you like 🙂

I made this recipe for a Fourth of July celebration as directed, except I did use salted butter because that is what I had on hand. I cut the additional salt amount in half. I did feel that my dough was just a tad dry, as it was losing some of its cohesiveness when scooping. I would probably start with 2 cups of flour next time and add 1 tablespoon at a time. I also used a small scoop and baked for seven minutes. They looked so cute and everyone loved them, even though I hadn’t put them in the fridge yet. I had the chilled one this morning and it was even better!

Thanks for trying out the recipe!
