Alright, let’s get into everything you need to know about this easy tiramisu recipe.
What is tiramisu?
Tiramisu is a classic Italian dessert known for its rich, creamy texture and flavors of coffee, cocoa, and mascarpone. The name tiramisu translates to “pick me up,” which makes sense thanks to the espresso-soaked layers.
Traditional tiramisu is made with sponge cake dipped in coffee and liqueur, layered with mascarpone and cocoa powder. While delicious, it can take a couple of hours to prepare. This easy version delivers the same indulgent flavor with far less effort.

Tools You’ll Need
To make this tiramisu recipe you will need:
- A hand mixer or stand mixer (highly recommended)
- 8×8 baking pan
- A fine mesh sieve (for dusting cocoa powder)

Ingredients for Easy Tiramisu
- Heavy cream – Use very cold heavy cream for best whipping results
- Mascarpone cheese – Bring to room temperature before mixing
- Granulated sugar – Just enough to lightly sweeten
- Vanilla extract – Use good-quality vanilla if possible
- Strong espresso or coffee – Espresso adds depth, but regular coffee works too
- Ladyfingers – Store-bought or homemade
- Cocoa powder – Use a good-quality cocoa for best flavor
What Are Ladyfingers (and Where to Find Them)?
Ladyfingers are dry, lightly sweet sponge biscuits shaped like fingers. They’re commonly used in desserts like tiramisu because they soak up liquid without falling apart.
You can usually find them in the cookie aisle at most grocery stores. If you can’t find them locally, they’re available online, or you can make them at home with this recipe.
Tips for the Best Tiramisu
- Use very cold heavy cream. Cold cream whips faster and holds its shape better.
- Dip ladyfingers quickly. About 5–8 seconds is perfect. Any longer and they’ll become soggy.
- Use room-temperature mascarpone. Cold mascarpone can create lumps in the cream mixture.

How to Make Easy Tiramisu (Step-by-Step)
This isn’t traditional tiramisu, and that’s what makes it so easy. Traditional versions require separating eggs, making custard, and folding multiple components together. This recipe skips all of that.
- Beat the mascarpone, heavy cream, sugar, and vanilla until stiff peaks form.

- Quickly dip ladyfingers into room-temperature coffee and line them in an 8×8-inch dish.
- Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.

- Add another layer of coffee-dipped ladyfingers.
- Top with the remaining mascarpone mixture.
- Dust with cocoa powder and refrigerate for at least 3 hours or overnight.

Alcohol or no alcohol In this Easy Tiramisu Recipe?
This recipe is alcohol-free, but you can easily add it if you prefer. Optional alcohol additions:
Here are some alcohol variations you can use for this recipe:
- Kahlua
- Dark rum
- Brandy
- Marsala wine
To add alcohol, stir about 3 tablespoons of coffee-flavored liqueur into the coffee before dipping the ladyfingers.

Delicious! Get all ingredients together, Make Expresso & give it enough time to cool. Give the mascarpone cheese enough time to come to room temp. Follow recipe, easy. Melts in your mouth.
Thank you so much!
My mascarpone was lumpy although I had it at room temperature…when I mixed it in with my whipping cream, it turned into he consistency of a pie crust or biscuit dough…I added more cream and made it doable but still it was like very lumpy tapioca –taste was good. Don’t know what I did wrong
Would this work in a round spring form pan? I don’t have an 8×8 pan.
Yes! It definitely will!
Can I double it and put it in a 13×9? Also, by espresso do you mean drip coffee, or espresso shots?
Yes that size should work fine. And you can use whatever form of coffee that you’d like honestly, even instant works as well. The only goal is to make the coffee flavor be strong enough that it infuses with the cookies.
My niece and I made this together and we had fun. It was easy and it came out very good. We are going to make it again tonight. However, we are going to soak the fingers a little longer. That is our only suggestion. A+
OMG I love that and thank you for the suggestion! 😁
Can I use decaf coffee? I can not have caffeine.
You sure can!
I made this and it turned out perfect. Shared with friends and a week later was asked to make it again. Thanks!
You’re welcome!
Sounds amazing!! Can I use instant espresso?
You sure can! The flavor will be a little different from if you used espresso but it will still be good!
This is by far the best east tiramisu!! I alway volunteer to bring dessert to a gathering and it has never failed me. It always turns out great. Thank you!!
You’re welcome 🙂
What a great tiramisu recipe! I’ve made this a few times and it comes out perfectly every time. It’s been a huge hit at holiday get togethers and no one believes me when I say how easy it is to put together. Also, it’s delicious!
Thank you so much for sharing Victoria!
I love this recipe, it’s so easy and delicious, however, I do feel like it’s too much vanilla. It makes the marscapone and whipped cream taste like frosting. Every time I make this I have to remember to do less vanilla. Other than that, it’s delish!
Thanks for trying out the recipe!
Do not sleep on this recipe, literally took minutes to put together. Absolutely delicious, easy to assemble and a crowd pleaser.
What a great compliment. Thank you!
