I’m a little late on this Crumbl Oreo birthday cake cookie recipe. I have been getting requests for it since last year, but I had never tried it so I figured I would wait until Crumbl brought it back in their stores.
This week as soon as they brought it in, I went ahead and purchased my cookie and tried it out for myself. It’s really simple and similar to their other Oreo cookies but the frosting on top and the cookie dough bites is what takes it up a notch.
These are the best Oreo birthday cake cookies ever!
This recipe does use some black cocoa powder because I wanted to keep it as close to the real deal as possible. And we all know that Oreos are made with black cocoa so here it is! I also used Imperial sugar for these cookies to ensure that they turn out as good as possible. You know what they say, use the best ingredients to yield the best results in your baking, and Imperial Sugar does that for me always!

Yes, you can. I prefer using black cocoa to make it really taste like Oreo cookies, but if you are in a pinch and don’t have it, regular will work just fine!

Frequently asked questions – FAQ
CAN I USE DOUBLE STUFFED OREOS OR THIN OREOS FOR THESE COOKIES?
No, make sure to use the regular Oreos to keep the texture of these cookies the same. If you use the double stuffed Oreos, the stuffing will bring too much moisture to these cookies and if you use the think ones, there won’t be enough cookie or stuffing to make the exact cookie dough that I made for this recipe.
So make sure that you stick with the regular Oreo cookies for this recipe!
How to store these Oreo birthday cake cookies?
You can store these cookies in the fridge for up to 7 days. Once you’re ready to enjoy them, pull them out of the fridge and let them get back to room temp and enjoy!
Can I freeze these Oreo birthday cake cookies?
These cookies can also be frozen in an air-tight container for up to 2 months. Make sure to flash freeze them first to allow the frosting to set before transferring them to an air tight container so that it doesn’t get smooshed.
Thaw them in the fridge overnight and then let them get back to room temperature before enjoying them.
How to make mini catering size Crumbl Oreo birthday cake cookies?
Instead of making 8 large cookies, you can also make 16 smaller cookies. Now, instead of baking them for 11 minutes you can bake them for 9 minutes, let them cool down on the baking sheet fully then transfer the mini cookies to a cooling rack.
Once the cookies are cooled down, you can decorate them as you could the larger cookies, then enjoy!

Any ideas for modifying this to cookie bars? Just to be quicker!
Chahinez
While I haven’t tried it myself, adapting the recipe to cookie bars could be a fun experiment. The 8×8 inch pan and bake at 350°F for around 220-25 minutes should work well, but keep an eye on them as baking times can vary based on the oven and the thickness of the bars.

I have been making these as a special birthday cookie for my husband’s birthday for a few years now. He loves them, they are so good!!

That’s wonderful to hear! It’s always great to have a go-to recipe for special occasions, especially when it’s a hit with the person you’re baking for.

crumbl uses cake batter extract! that’s why it’s called oreo bday cake(: otherwise this is just basically their oreo crumb cake recipe. still good but not the same flavor! maybe you could update the recipe? i saw a couple people sharing this on facebook & saying it was missing the signature birthday cake flavor of crumbl(:
Chahinez
Thank you so much for sharing!

Chahinez,
How do you maintain the white color of your frosting? After adding the vanilla extract to mine, it went off-white, more of a tan-grey color.
Thanks!
Chahinez
Using clear vanilla is the easiest way to fix that issue!
Promise
These cookies taste just like an oreo! They are so amazing and I especially like the oreo cake balls on top 🙂

So happy I got the dark cocoa for these. They taste amazing and can’t wait to use it in other recipes.
I will say if you’re using the “metric” tab, it changes the oreos from 10 to 20 and the butter for the frosting from 1/4 stick to 53g (a half stick)
Chahinez
So glad you enjoyed these! Thank you for pointing that out! I will check it out right now.

So easy and so good! I didn’t have time to freeze them and they still came out soft and perfect. The frosting is to die for. Another winner!
Kristina
Made these! PERFECTION!!! Turned out so delicious. And were even better after a day. It was hard to tell when they were done baking since they are already black, but I think I nailed the softness. The black cocoa powder was impossible to find in my small town but luckily was able to borrow some from a neighbor friend. I’ll have to order some online for me to make these again!
