This is the Best Fudge Walnut Brownies Recipe!

Brownies can vary widely in texture and consistency. They can be dense and very cakey, or moist with a fudgy center and crispy edges.

This recipe is as good as it gets if you’re looking for fudgy, decadent brownies, which are the best brownies in my opinion. To take it to the next level, the combination of walnuts to the brownie base makes it a game changer.ย

  • Vegetable Oil:ย Use a neutral oil. If you don’t have vegetable oil, you could use canola oil, grapeseed oil or peanut oil.
  • Unsalted Butter: Try to use a high-quality butter from a good brand. Be sure to avoid watered-down butters that have added fillers.
  • White Sugar: is used to sweeten the fudgy brownies.
  • Brown Sugar: is used to sweeten while also giving an extra depth of flavor.
  • Eggs: helps make these thick brownies chewier and adds to the fudgy texture.
  • Vanilla Extract: goes in almost all chocolate desserts to enhance the intense chocolate flavor.
  • All-Purpose Flour: gives the fudge-like brownies their structure.
  • Unsweetened Cocoa Powder: is what makes these chocolate brownies so flavorful.
  • Salt: balances the sweetness and enhances all of the other flavors.
  • Chopped Walnuts: You can buy them pre-chopped or chop them at home if they’re whole.

Make sure to scroll down to the recipe card at the end of this post for the full step-by-step instructions!

  1. Preheat your oven. Then line and grease an 8×8 inch square pan with parchment paper, leaving some to hang over the sides of the pan for easy removal.
  2. In a large bowl, add in the melted butter, oil, brown sugar, granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract. Beat until light and fluffy.
  3. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix. Fold in the chopped walnuts, then pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs (not wet batter). The top should have a crinkly appearance, and the edges should be set while the center remains slightly fudgy.
  5. Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
  6. Once cooled to room temperature, lift the brownies out of the pan using the parchment paper overhang. Cut into squares and dust with powdered sugar if desired.

Frequently asked questions – FAQ

How to Store Your Leftover Fudge Walnut Brownies

Place your leftover brownies in an airtight container and place them in the fridge for up to 1 week. You could also put them in the freezer, it should last for a month or so like that.

If you do decide to freeze because you made them ahead of time or just don’t know when you will eat them again, try to wrap each square in plastic wrap to prevent freezer burn and ensure maximum freshness.

Flavor Variations You Can Try

  • If you’re a chocolate lover, add chocolate chips or chunks when folding in the walnuts.
  • Drizzle in some caramel sauce and swirl it through the batter with a toothpick prior to baking to create delicious caramel brownies.
  • Use a different nut in these brownies, think pecans or even chopped up almonds would be delicious in this.
