Ingredients for this Chick-Fil-A cookies
Here are the ingredients you will need to make this chocolate chunk copycat cookie. Make sure to scroll down to the recipe card for the full detailed ingredient measurements.
- Light brown sugar & granulated sugar– This cookie uses a mixture of sugars to get them to have the perfect consistency and texture.
- Shortening & butter– Chick-Fil-A actually uses shortening in their cookies so we are using a mixture of butter flavored Crisco as well as butter to give these the perfect texture.
- Honey – This is the secret ingredient that will add a nice depth of flavor here.
- Egg– This will be the binding agent of our cookies. I like to use large eggs at room temperature.
- Vanilla extract- Vanilla pairs so well with the honey flavors of this cookie.
- Flour– All purpose flour works great for this cookie recipe.
- Oats– A little old-fashioned oats go a long way in this recipe.
- Baking powder & baking soda– These will give our cookies a little extra height.
- Salt– Always use a little salt in your baked goods to balance out the sweetness of your cookies.
- Chocolate chunks – Use milk chocolate chunks and semi-sweet chocolate chunks to get that iconic Chick Fil A flavor.

Frequently asked questions – FAQ
Do I need to chill the cookie dough?
If you have the time, I prefer the chilled dough method because it results in cookies that are a tad bit thicker since the chilling allows the flour to absorb more liquid. It also allows the flavors of the chocolate chunk cookies to develop even more.
If you decide to make these cookies without chilling the dough, bake them for 1-2 minutes less.
How to store these Chick Fil A cookies?
These cookies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3-4 days. You can also pop them in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 7 days.
Once you’re ready to enjoy them pop them in the microwave for a few seconds to get them ooey gooey again and enjoy!
Can I freeze chick fil a chocolate chunk cookies?
Yes! You can also freeze these baked cookies in an airtight container for up to 2 months. Once you’re ready to enjoy them thaw them in the fridge overnight or on the countertop for less.
My favorite way to thaw these is to pop them in the microwave for a few seconds and enjoy them!
Can I make mini Chick Fil A cookies?
Yes, you can! Instead of making 16 larger cookies, you will be able to make 32 smaller ones. Instead of baking them for 13-14 minutes, bake them for 10 minutes instead.
Do Chick-Fil-A cookies have nuts?
These cookies don’t have nuts in them. They do have oats which create sun a fun texture but if you want to add in some nuts, I would highly recommend adding in toasted walnuts ot even toasted pecans!

Super easy recipe but so delicious! Swapped the milk chocolate for dark chocolate and it was even more decadent. Very close to the chick fil a cookies, amazing!

You cracked the code. These cookies are delicious. I went by Chick-fil-A this afternoon and was craving one of their chocolate chip cookies but the line was so long I passed it by. When I stopped by the store I checked out your recipe and picked up what I needed to make them
They are just as good if not better than Chick-ful-A. Thanks so much for figuring out the perfect recipe!!
Chahinez
OMG thank you for the kind words!😊

I love your post and your recipes. My son actually follows you and so I started to as well. Can I sub all butter in these instead of shortening?
Thanks so much
Chahinez
Yes you can!!

These are the best cookies I have ever eaten in my life. Your recipe is perfect. I used White Lily AP flour so I had to add 6 TBSP of extra flour and chilled the dough overnight and used a 1/4 measuring cup to portion my dough. it made bakery quality cookies! For beginner bakers just be sure not to let your butter sit out too long. it should leave an indent when you push your finger into it but hold it’s shape. Thanks for a cookie recipe I can use for the rest of my life. ❣️
Chahinez
You’re welcome!😁
Shannon
I’d really love to make these cookies. I live in Amsterdam but am from Cali. Can I sub all butter for the shortening? Not sure I can find shortening here.
Thanks
Chahinez
Yes you can Shannon! Enjoy!
Shannon
I don’t like using shortening, can I just use all butter? I’m American, but I live in Amsterdam, so I’m not sure I could even find shortening? I really want to try these though…..Miss Chick-fil-A and these cookies.
Thanks,
Shannon
Chahinez
Yes, you can!
Ellie
These are soooo good!! Some copycat recipes are delicious while not resembling the original that much, but THESE were such a good mock-up of Chick-fil-a’s. My family devoured them!
Ellie
Oh I also added a sprinkle of flaky sea salt on top which I think balanced out the sweetness really well!
Krystal
can I sub butter shorting to regular?
Chahinez
Unfortunately no, you need butter!
Sara
I just made these tonight! So good and so close to the original chick fil a cookie! For me they’re a bit sweet, so next time I may reduce the amount of white sugar. They’re on par with the chick fil a cookies sweetness wise though, I just like a little less sweetness. Another thing I’d change to make them more like the chick fil a cookies would be to smash the cookie dough balls down a bit to make them a bit thinner. I just rolled then into balls. I think the recipe mentions mashing them? So listen to that! Overall super tasty!
Chahinez
Thank you so much for trying them!
Kay
I am obsessed with Chick Fil A cookies!!!
Chahinez
Me too Kay!
Sonja
Easy to make and rave reviews from everyone! I didn’t have old-fashioned oats, so used quick. They turned out delicious, but I will use old-fashioned next time! One person said these are BETTER than Chick-Fil-A!!
Chahinez
YES!!! So glad these cookies went down a hit!
Ashlee
Literally the best. I’ve made these 2 times now and each time they’re gone within days. So so soooo good!
Chahinez
Thank you Ashlee!
