Ingredients for Chick-Fil-A Cookie cut in half

Chick-Fil-A’s cookies are irresistibly addictive, they’re simple but also packed with flavor and I made it my mission to figure out hot to make the perfect copycat version at home for you.

Every time I visit the famous chicken restaurant, I cannot help myself. I always end up grabbing a sweet treat to go with their mocha cold brew coffee. More often than not, it is their honey oatmeal chocolate chip cookie I crave!

This is the best Chick-Fil-A chocolate chip cookies

These Chick-Fil-A inspired chocolate chip cookies are the ultimate indulgence, but in all honesty I tend to crave them at the worst times. Often it is when the store is closed and you can imagine how annoying that is! So I found a way to enjoy them whenever the cravings hit!

With this recipe, you can do just that. Plus these cookies when stored correctly stay insanely soft for days so you can have them whenever you want!

Stack of Ingredients for Chick-Fil-A Cookies

Why you need to make this recipe!

  • One bowl recipe, AKA no need to overcomplicate things! Easy clean-up and a quick prep is what I am all about!
  • Better than the original! Honestly, they taste even better than the Chick-Fil-A version (promise!!)
  • Save money! Who doesn’t want to save money in this economy. That’s why I love maying this recipe at home for a fraction of the cost!

What Makes These Cookies So Special?

Chick-Fil-A’s cookies are a staple for so many! I see at least 2-3 people purchase them every time I am there! They are thick, slightly chewy, and packed with the perfect balance of milk chocolate chips and semi-sweet chocolate. The addition of oats also makes them stand out so much more compared to your typical chocolate chips cookies. Creating a fun and unique texture that you really can’t resist!

The most important part to me is that you can have these cookies whenever you want to have them. No need to wait until Monday because they’re closed Sunday. You can have these whenever the cravings hit.

Ingredients for Chick-Fil-A Cookies

Ingredients for this Chick-Fil-A cookies

Here are the ingredients you will need to make this chocolate chunk copycat cookie. Make sure to scroll down to the recipe card for the full detailed ingredient measurements.

  • Light brown sugar & granulated sugar– This cookie uses a mixture of sugars to get them to have the perfect consistency and texture.
  • Shortening & butter– Chick-Fil-A actually uses shortening in their cookies so we are using a mixture of butter flavored Crisco as well as butter to give these the perfect texture.
  • Honey – This is the secret ingredient that will add a nice depth of flavor here.
  • Egg– This will be the binding agent of our cookies. I like to use large eggs at room temperature.
  • Vanilla extract- Vanilla pairs so well with the honey flavors of this cookie.
  • Flour– All purpose flour works great for this cookie recipe.
  • Oats– A little old-fashioned oats go a long way in this recipe.
  • Baking powder & baking soda– These will give our cookies a little extra height.
  • Salt– Always use a little salt in your baked goods to balance out the sweetness of your cookies.
  • Chocolate chunks – Use milk chocolate chunks and semi-sweet chocolate chunks to get that iconic Chick Fil A flavor.

Frequently asked questions – FAQ

Do I need to chill the cookie dough?

If you have the time, I prefer the chilled dough method because it results in cookies that are a tad bit thicker since the chilling allows the flour to absorb more liquid. It also allows the flavors of the chocolate chunk cookies to develop even more.

If you decide to make these cookies without chilling the dough, bake them for 1-2 minutes less.

How to store these Chick Fil A cookies?

These cookies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3-4 days. You can also pop them in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 7 days.

Once you’re ready to enjoy them pop them in the microwave for a few seconds to get them ooey gooey again and enjoy!

Can I freeze chick fil a chocolate chunk cookies?

Yes! You can also freeze these baked cookies in an airtight container for up to 2 months. Once you’re ready to enjoy them thaw them in the fridge overnight or on the countertop for less.

My favorite way to thaw these is to pop them in the microwave for a few seconds and enjoy them!

Mini catering chick-fil-a cookies

Can I make mini Chick Fil A cookies?

Yes, you can! Instead of making 16 larger cookies, you will be able to make 32 smaller ones. Instead of baking them for 13-14 minutes, bake them for 10 minutes instead.

Do Chick-Fil-A cookies have nuts?

These cookies don’t have nuts in them. They do have oats which create sun a fun texture but if you want to add in some nuts, I would highly recommend adding in toasted walnuts ot even toasted pecans!

This recipe looks amazing! Does the shortening have to be butter flavored? I already have regular shortening, so I’m wondering if I can use what I have on hand!

Thank you! 😊 You can definitely use regular shortening if that’s what you have on hand, but the butter-flavored shortening will give the recipe a little extra richness and depth of flavor. Either way, it should still turn out delicious!

I am planning to substitute the shortening with ghee and coconut oil at a 2:1 or 3:1 ratio. still 1:1 to the shortening. Just curious if you had any recommendations for this. I’m guessing I should still chill the dough?

I’ve never tried using those substitutions for this recipe so I’m not sure. But yes, definitely chill the dough so they don’t spread out too much.

Will it be okey to just use butter and no shortening?

        January 03, 2025 at 1:54 pm

Shortening is different from butter in that it is 100% fat and contains no water, so no steam is created during baking. On the other hand, butter does contain a bit of water. The shortening is preferable because it results in a dough that’s softer, flakier, and more tender.

I’m very excited to try this recipe! I just ate a Chick fil A cookie and thought, ‘I bet someone has figured out the recipe,’ and found yours right away! :). So many 5 star reviews! Question: if I wanted to make them a little less sweet, would it be better to decrease the white sugar or the brown sugar, or both?
    Thanks so much!

So excited for you to try them! 😊 If you want to make them a little less sweet, I’d recommend reducing the white sugar rather than the brown sugar. The brown sugar helps with moisture and chewiness, so keeping it will maintain that soft texture. Let me know how they turn out for you! 🍪💕

You cracked the code. These cookies are delicious. I went by Chick-fil-A this afternoon and was craving one of their chocolate chip cookies but the line was so long I passed it by. When I stopped by the store I checked out your recipe and picked up what I needed to make them
They are just as good if not better than Chick-ful-A. Thanks so much for figuring out the perfect recipe!!

These are the best cookies I have ever eaten in my life. Your recipe is perfect. I used White Lily AP flour so I had to add 6 TBSP of extra flour and chilled the dough overnight and used a 1/4 measuring cup to portion my dough. it made bakery quality cookies! For beginner bakers just be sure not to let your butter sit out too long. it should leave an indent when you push your finger into it but hold it’s shape. Thanks for a cookie recipe I can use for the rest of my life. ❣️

I just made these tonight! So good and so close to the original chick fil a cookie! For me they’re a bit sweet, so next time I may reduce the amount of white sugar. They’re on par with the chick fil a cookies sweetness wise though, I just like a little less sweetness. Another thing I’d change to make them more like the chick fil a cookies would be to smash the cookie dough balls down a bit to make them a bit thinner. I just rolled then into balls. I think the recipe mentions mashing them? So listen to that! Overall super tasty!
