I feel like we just finished with Halloween 2 seconds ago and now everyone is gearing up for Christmas. It almost feels like Thanksgiving is being skipped this year. Which I don’t really know how to feel about really.
I went to the store a few days ago to see if they had any Halloween sprinkles on sale, news flash, they did not. But I also noticed the employees putting Christmas decorations and Christmas themed things out which to me is totally crazy.
Don’t get me wrong I love Christmas, but I love Thanksgiving too!
This marbled Christmas sugar cookie recipe is the best Christmas treat ever!
Around this time of the year, you will always find me enjoying some hot chocolate or hot tea if I’m dialing down the sugar with a few Christmas inspired cookies (I don’t dial down the sugar for cookies. It’s always worth it!!) While watching some very unrealistic Holiday love movies.
This year especially, I had to start a bit earlier because of how insane this year has been. I am looking for every bit of comfort and taking it gladly because I need some extra self love and self care.
Anyways, all this to say, that for the past three days, I’ve been enjoying one of two of these marbled Christmas cookies while watching some super dreamy Christmas movies and I think you should do the same.

What makes these Christmas marbled sugar cookies so special?
I love making these cookies every year around Christmas time because of so many reasons, here are a few:
- This sugar cookie recipe is soft and chewy thanks to our favorite secret ingredient!
- It is such a fun Christmas recipe to make with children.
- The marble-ing effect makes these so beautiful to look at.
- They can be made in less than 30 minutes.
- These Christmas super cookies will look absolutely stunning a Christmas cookie box!

Ingredients for there red, white, and green marbled sugar cookies
To make this Christmas sugar cookie recipe you will need the following ingredients:
- butter- Softened butter is what you will need for this recipe.
- Granulated sugar– The white sugar makes the cookies soft and chewy.
- Brown sugar– Brown sugar is the secret ingredient to make these sugar cookies extra soft. It also gives them a depth of flavor.
- Egg white- The egg white is our binding agent.
- Vanilla- Can’t have a vanilla sugar cookie without the vanilla.
- Flour- All-purpose flour works great for this recipe.
- Baking soda- baking soda will give these cookies a bit of height.
- Salt– The salt will help balance out the sweetness of these cookies.
- Red and Green food coloring– For the red we use “red-red” and for the green we use “moss green” by Wilton.

Why use gel food coloring in sugar cookies?
Gel food coloring is the best option when it comes to coloring your cookie dough because it won’t affect the texture as much as liquid food coloring would.
I used about 1/8 tsp of each color but you can play around and see which one works best for you.

How to make Christmas marbled soft sugar cookies
First, start by preheating your oven to 350F, then line a baking sheet with parchment paper or silicone baking mat then set aside.
In a stand mixer, start by creaming the butter with the granulated sugar and the brown sugar using a paddle attachment until the mixture is light and creamy. Add in the egg white and the vanilla and mix again for 30 seconds or until fully incorporated.
Add in the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt and mix just until the flour disappears. Divide the cookie dough into three equally sized balls and place each one in a separate bowl. Dye one red, one green, and leave the third one as is.
Scoop out one teaspoon of cookie dough from each bowl, You now have two options, you can either put those three balls together and roll them gently to get a simple design or you can split each 1 teaspoon of cookie dough into two and randomly place them on each other before rolling them gently to create a more elaborate design. After rolling all the cookies, bake them at 350F for 7 minutes. Let the cookies cool on the cookie rack for 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
Enjoy with a tall glass of milk or serve these cookies on a festive plate for Santa!
Should I roll my sugar cookies in sugar?
Honestly, this is a preference thing especially when it comes to these marbled sugar cookies. Some people might want the color to be vibrant and not diluted by the sugar coating and others might want the sugar coating.
Below I attached a photo of these marbled red white and green cookie without the sugar coating and with the sugar coating for you to decide which one you prefer.
How to freeze Christmas sugar cookies?
To freeze these Christmas cookies, prepare the cookie dough as directed, then scoop out individual cookie dough balls onto a parchment lined baking sheet and freeze. Once they are completely frozen, transfer them to an airtight container and place back in the freezer for up to 3 months.
Whenever you are ready to bake them, pop them in the oven and bake them for an extra minute or two.

Tips for the softest sugar cookies
When you are making this Christmas sugar cookie recipe, there are a few tips that will ensure that your cookies turn out amazing!
- When you are coloring your red and green cookie dough, either wear gloves or wash your hands very well between each color. You don’t want to mix the green and red together.
- Avoid over mixing your cookie dough. Hear me out! We want soft and chewy cookies, so the less with mix the cookie dough the softer they will be.
- Don’t over bake these cookies. Over baked cookies tend to be harder and not as soft and chewy. So make sure to only bake these cookies for 7 minutes.

How long to store Christmas sugar cookies?
These Christmas sugar cookies can be made in advance and shared with friends and family. They store very well, and stay chewy long after you make them.
Place your baked sugar cookies in an airtight container and store them at room temperature for 3 days or in the fridge for up to 7 days.
