What ingredients do I need to make this chocolate tofu mousse?
This recipe is extremely simple and only requires you to have 3 ingredients. Of course there are optional things you can use to top the silken tofu chocolate mousse with but you don’t really have to have them if you wanna throw this silken tofu dessert together to satisfy a quick craving.
The ingredients you will need for this tofu dessert are:
- Silken tofu (of course)- The silken tofu is going to be the base of this dessert. When purchasing your silken tofu make sure to get organic silken tofu. Since soy is so mass produced it is easy to ingest a lot of the pesticide that was used to grow non-organic tofu and that’s a no no! Make sure to also get extra-firm silken tofu instead of regular because it will give us the chocolate mousse texture we are looking for.
- Dark chocolate– Make sure to use the best tasting vegan chocolate or regular chocolate if you don’t want these to be vegan. The chocolate in this silken tofu recipe is the star and the better it is, the better your dessert will be.
- Maple syrup- This will be our main source of sweetness for this chocolate tofu mouse. If you don’t care for this chocolate mousse to be vegan you can also use honey in a 1:1 ratio.
Can I use regular tofu instead of silken tofu in this vegan chocolate mousse?
No.
regular tofu and silken tofu have very different textures. In this recipe we are using silken tofu because we want this dessert to be smooth and luscious which is something that the regular tofu won’t give us.
Silken tofu has the highest water content and more of a custardy texture, which is why it makes for the best chocolate tofu mousse.
Regular tofu has somewhat of a spongy texture and even after being blended won’t be as smooth as the silken tofu can be.
So stick to the silken tofu for this recipe 🙂 If you can’t find it at your grocery store you can always purchase it online.
Note:
Make sure to use the best quality dark chocolate you could get because that’s what will give this quick vegan chocolate mousse its flavor.
This could also be used as a chocolate mousse pie filling… Just thinking about that now is making my mouth water!
