Ingredients for this family-favorite oatmeal cookie recipe

Here are the ingredients you will need to make this Quaker oatmeal raisin cookie recipe. Make sure to scroll down to the recipe card for the full detailed ingredient measurements.

  • Butter- You can use salted or unsalted butter for this recipe. No vegetable shortening here, we want the butter flavor to really shine through!
  • Brown sugar & granulated sugar- This recipe uses a mixture of light brown sugar and white sugar to give you the best texture ever! Feel free to use dark brown sugar for a deeper-flavored cookie.
  • Eggs- Use room-temperature large eggs in this recipe.
  • Vanilla extract- Make sure to use vanilla bean paste for the best-flavored cookies.
  • Flour- We are using all-purpose flour in this recipe.
  • Baking soda- This is our leavening agent that will help add a little bit of height to our cookies.
  • Cinnamon- This will give out cookie the most delicious hint of cinnamon that goes so well with raisins.
  • Salt- Adding a little salt is the best way to balance out the flavors of this sweet treat.
  • Quaker oats– We are using quick oats for this recipe but feel free to use old-fashioned oats as well.
  • Raisins- The original version of the recipe on the lid of the Quaker oats box makes this recipe with raisins but feel free to use chocolate chips instead of raisins if that’s your preference.

Substitutions for this Quaker oatmeal cookie recipe

  • You can change up your mix-ins and use 1 cup of chopped nuts instead of the raisins, 1 cup of semisweet chocolate, or even 1 cup of chocolate-coated peanuts.
  • Sprinkle each cookie with coarse sea salt to add that perfect balance between sweet and salty.

Frequently Asked Questions – FAQ

How to store these chewy oatmeal cookies?

You can store these cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. You can also store them in an airtight container in the fridge for a little longer.

Can I freeze these cookies?

These cookies are great for holiday baking and Christmas cookie boxes so I completely understand why you would want to make them in advance and freeze them for later!

To do so, allow them to cool down completely before transferring them to a freezer-safe container and freeze them for up to 3 months.

Allow these cookies to thaw in the fridge overnight or on the counter for a few hours.

What to pair this delicious cookie with?

A cookie is always a good idea so here are some of my favorite things to pair with this afternoon snack (or morning snack!)

  • Pumpkin spice cold brew
  • Iced matcha latte
  • Blended iced caramel coffee
  • Vanilla sweet cream cold brew
  • Hot Vanilla latte
  • Hot white chocolate mocha

What is the difference between old-fashioned oats and quick oats in this recipe?

For this specific cookie recipe, you can use either but each one will give you slightly different results. Here is everything you need to know about what the changes will do to your cookies:

  • Old-fashioned oats will result in a chewy cookie that has a little more body to it while still spreading a little more than its counterparts.
  • Quick oats will result in a slightly thicker cookie because of the fact that the quick oats end up absorbing a little extra moisture form the cookie dough.

At the end of the day, this will largely depend on your own preference. You can even mix a little bit of both until you get the right texture cookies!
