This is the Best Peppermint Fudge Recipe Ever!

This homemade fudge stands out for several reasons. With just a handful of simple ingredients, it captures the essence of peppermint in every bite.

The ingredients together create a beautiful balance of flavors that stimulate your taste buds without overwhelming them.

The texture is also amazing, hitting the perfect middle point between smooth and slightly chewy, providing a delightful contrast that elevates the overall experience.

But do you want to know what the best part is? It’s that this fudge is made within minutes by using a microwave instead of a double boiler or medium saucepan so you can sit back and relax after swiftly making yourself a deliciously easy chocolate peppermint fudge recipe for the holidays.

Ingredients for this Peppermint Fudge Recipe

Make sure to scroll down to the recipe card at the bottom of the page for the detailed ingredient measurements.

  • Chocolate Chips: Semi-sweet chocolate chips provide the perfect amount of sweetness and bitterness to balance out the overall flavor of the fudge.
  • Sweetened Condensed Milk: Condensed milk is the glue that holds all of the ingredients together while adding a delicious flavor and sweetness all at the same time.
  • Butter: You could use salted or unsalted for this recipe, it’s entirely up to you. Salted butter is sometimes nice to use because the salt added into sweet desserts can help balance and enhance all of the other flavors.
  • Peppermint Extract: We use peppermint extract over peppermint syrup to get the peppermint flavor. Extract is more potent and concentrated and doesn’t have the excess sweeteners or moisture that syrup has. A little goes a long way so don’t over do it with this one.
  • Vanilla Extract: As with all chocolate fudge desserts, vanilla flavoring is added to enhance and compliment the chocolate flavor.
  • Crushed Peppermint Candies: Crushed candy canes add an amazingly crunchy texture to the top of the fudge.

Frequently asked questions – FAQ

How to Store this Peppermint Fudge?

To store fudge, you should wrap it in plastic wrap, put it in an airtight container, and put it in the fridge. It should last for a week.

Can I Freeze It?

I have tried this and it is best not to.

The issue that happens is that the candy canes on top will become sticky and somewhat melt on top of your fudge. It’s an unpleasant feeling in the mouth or to handle. If you aren’t going to use candy canes then definitely sure freeze these but with the candy canes I wouldn’t recommend that.

What Other Flavors Can I Do?

  • Different Types of Chocolate: Dark chocolate chips will give you a dark chocolate peppermint fudge as a less sweet version. Using white chocolate chips to create a creamy white chocolate fudge will give flavors of cocoa butter and would look even more festive. Just keep in mind that you will have to use a little more white chocolate if you decide to go with that option since it needs a little more to set when mixed with the one can of sweetened condensed milk.
  • Pretzels: Broken salted pretzel pieces go so well with this peppermint fudge recipe and add such a delicious crunchy texture and flavor. Just add and press them on top with your crushed candy canes to make them set into the mixture.
  • Marshmallow Creme: If you have any kids in your life, add a layer of fluffy marshmallow creme on top and watch them go crazy for it.

What Tips Do You Have for Me?

Be extra watchful white the chocolate is melting in the microwave.

Even though it is the easiest and quickest way, it is sensitive to high temperatures and can easily overheat and ruin its texture.

After the first 30 second heating interval, I would stand close and watch it to make sure it doesn’t burn itself.
