The Best Grinch Sugar Cookies

These adorble Grinch sugar cookies are soft and chewy holiday inspired green cookie inspired by the Grinch stole Christmas movie. They are colored with green food coloring and topped with a small red heart sprinkle. These cookies are based off my chewy sugar cookies and tweaked to fit the holiday these.

Every year I tell myself I am going to make Grinch inspired sweet treats but fail miserably because of lack of time or just because I forget. This time around I decided to make something super easy so there are no excuses and let me tell you, these are just that.

They are super easy and quick to throw together. The food coloring does the job for you and the vanilla extract will make these taste like the best sugar cookies of your life.

This is the best grinch cookie recipe ever!

Plus these will quickly become your little ones favorite cookies because who doesn’t love a little nostalgia in their Christmas baking! No only that but these would be the star of the show at holiday parties. No one will be miss these when serve on cookie platters with other cookie recipes since they are so vibrant.

So go ahead and put on the Grinch movie and start baking these delicious cookies! You won’t regret it!

Ingredients for these easy Christmas cookies

  • Butter– You can use salted or unsalted butter just make sure it is at room temperature.
  • Granulated and brown sugar- The mix of the two sugars will yield a super soft sugar cookie every time!
  • Egg white
  • Vanilla extract- This will give our cookies that amazing vanilla flavor that we all love with sugar cookies.
  • Neon green food coloring– I used a neon gel food coloring when mixing my wet ingredients, this will give the cookies a stunning green color.
  • Flour
  • Baking soda & baking powder
  • Candy hearts- These are used to symbolize the grinch’s small heart.
  • Green sugar– This is for if you decide to roll your cookies in green food coloring instead of in regular granulated sugar.

How to make these Grinch Christmas cookies?

This is how you can make these. Make sure to scroll down to the recipe card for the full detailed instructions! 

  1. Cream the butter and sugar together until creamy.
  2. Add in the egg white, vanilla extract and green gel food coloring. This is going to yield the most beautiful green cookies.
  3. Mix in the dry ingredients just until the flour mixture disappears.
  4. Using a small cookie scooper, scoop out the cookie dough, roll each cookie dough ball in granulated sugar or green sugar sprinkles, place on a parchment paper baking sheet, top with a heart candy sprinkle, and bake in the preheated oven.
  5. Let the cookies cool down on the cookie sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool some more.
  6. Enjoy these chewy green sugar cookies with a tall glass of milk while enjoying your favorite Christmas movies!

What sugar should I roll my cookies in?

This will strictly depend on preference. Below I used regular granulated sugar and green sprinkle sugar and the cookies will look different. So pick the look you are going for and use what will get you the desired final result!

How to store these adorable grinch cookies?

These cookies can be stored at room temperature in an airtight container for days. Of course storing them in the fridge will make them last longer just make sure that you enjoy these at room temperature of microwaved for a few seconds to get them warm and gooey gooey again.

Can I freeze these cookies?

Absolutely! You can make these cookies ahead of time and freeze them in an airtight container for up to 3 months. Let them thaw in the fridge overnight or on the counter top for a few hours. I also like to microwave them for a little bit to get them warm and delicious again.

Ingredients
 
 

  • 1 stick butter softened
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 large egg white
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • ½ teaspoon neon green food coloring
  • 1 &⅓ cup + 1 tablespoon all purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar for rolling the cookies, or green sprinkle sugar
  • Heart sprinkles

Instructions
 

  • Start by preheating the oven to 350F, then line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  • In a stand mixer cream the butter, granulated sugar and brown sugar together using a paddle attachement until light in color and fluffy. Add in the egg white and the vanilla and mix again for 30 seconds or until fully incorporated. Mix in the gel food coloring.
    1 stick butter, ½ cup granulated sugar, 2 tablespoon brown sugar, 1 large egg white, 1 teaspoon vanilla, ½ teaspoon neon green food coloring
  • Add in the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt and mix just until the flour disappears. Using a small cookie scooper, scoop out equally sized cookie dough balls, roll them in the sugar and place them on the parchment lined baking sheet. Make sure to leave 2 inches between each cookie because they will spread. Top the cookies with a red heart before baking.
    1 &⅓ cup + 1 tablespoon all purpose flour, ½ teaspoon baking soda, ¼ teaspoon baking powder, ¼ teaspoon salt, ⅓ cup granulated sugar, Heart sprinkles
  • Bake the cookies for 8 minutes, pull them out and let them rest on the cookie sheet for 5-10 minutes then transfer to a cooling wrack. Enjoy immediately or store in an airtight container.

Notes

These soft and chewy sugar cookies can be stored in an airtight container for 4 day at room temperature or up to 3 months in the freezer.
