Caramel Chocolate Pretzel Rods

These delicious caramel chocolate covered pretzel rods are the ultimate no-bake holiday treat. Sweet and salty flavors with a perfect crunch.

Ingredients

  • 14 thick pretzel rods
  • 40 soft caramels I used the whether's original caramels
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 12 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips or chocolate melting wafers
  • flaky sea salt

Instructions

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a Silpat mat to prevent sticking.
  • Unwrap the soft caramels and place them in a microwave-safe bowl.

  • Add the heavy cream to the caramels. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until the caramels are fully melted and smooth.
  • Dip each pretzel rod into the melted caramel, leaving a few inches at the top uncovered for easy handling.

  • Let excess caramel drip off, then place the caramel-coated pretzels onto the prepared baking sheet.
  • Allow the caramel to set for about 15-20 minutes. I like to chill my pretzels in the fridge so they set better,
  • In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate wafers according to the package instructions, usually in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth.

  • Alternatively, melt the chocolate using a double boiler on the stovetop.
  • Once the caramel has set, dip each caramel-coated pretzel rod into the melted chocolate, covering the caramel layer.
  • Gently shake off any excess chocolate and place the pretzels back onto the baking sheet.
  • While the chocolate is still wet, sprinkle the pretzel rods with your choice of toppings, such as sprinkles, crushed nuts, or a pinch of sea salt.

  • Allow the chocolate to fully set at room temperature, or place the pretzel rods in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes to speed up the process.
  • Once the chocolate is firm, your caramel chocolate pretzel rods are ready to enjoy!
