Ingredients

  • 8-10 medium apples mixed varieties like Gala, Fuji, and Granny Smith
  • 1 large orange peeled and sliced
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 4-5 whole cloves
  • 1-2 star anise
  • 1 inch piece of fresh ginger sliced
  • ¼ teaspoon allspice ground
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ½ cup brown sugar or honey optional, adjust to taste
  • 10-12 cups water

Instructions

  • Wash and roughly chop apples (no need to peel), removing cores. Peel and slice the orange. Place everything in the instant pot.
8-10 medium apples, 1 large orange
  • Add cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise, ginger, allspice, and sweetener (if using) to the pot. Pour in 10-12 cups of water, enough to cover the fruit.
3 cinnamon sticks, 4-5 whole cloves, 1-2 star anise, 1 inch piece of fresh ginger, ¼ teaspoon allspice ground, ¼ teaspoon nutmeg, ½ cup brown sugar or honey, 10-12 cups water
  • Lock the lid, and pressure cook on High for 15 minutes. Let it naturally release for 20 minutes.
  • Open the lid and mash the apples and oranges with a potato masher to release the flavors.
  • Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a bowl, pressing to extract all the liquid.
  • Taste, adjust sweetness if needed, and serve warm. Garnish with extra orange slices or cinnamon sticks if desired.
