Holiday candied walnut recipe

Ingredients

  • 3 cups walnut halves or pieces
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 large egg white
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt, nutmeg, ginger, and allspice. Set aside.

  • In a separate large bowl, whisk the egg white until frothy.

  • Add water and vanilla extract to the frothy egg white, and whisk until well combined.
  • Add the walnuts to the egg white mixture, tossing to coat the nuts evenly.
    3 cups walnut halves or pieces
  • Sprinkle the sugar and spice mixture over the walnuts, stirring until the nuts are well coated with the sugar mixture.
  • Spread the coated walnuts in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes, stirring once halfway through. Keep a close eye to prevent burning.
  • Remove the candied walnuts from the oven when they are golden brown and fragrant.
  • Allow the candied walnuts to cool completely on the baking sheet. They will become crisp as they cool.
  • Once cooled, break apart any clusters and store the candied walnuts in an airtight container.
